A Rich Legacy in Paper Manufacturing
Boyer Paper Mill made history on February 22, 1941, by producing Australia’s first newsprint. Over 84 years, producing paper, supporting major publishers and providing essential materials for newspapers, retail catalogues, and magazine inserts.

Each year, Boyer Paper Mill produces around 140,000 tonnes of newsprint and related grades, and 120,000 tonnes of LWC. Our products are trusted by the nation’s leading publishers.

We continue to innovate and adapt to industry changes, such as the conversion of PM2 to LWC, ensuring we stay at the forefront of the paper industry while maintaining a focus on sustainability. Our mill relies on sustainably sourced Radiata pine, contributing to a greener future for paper production.
Economic Impact & Community Engagement
Boyer Paper Mill is a major contributor to Tasmania’s economy, adding approximately $390 million to the state’s gross product. The mill also supports 926 local jobs and is a significant consumer of Tasmania’s electricity, coal, and softwood resources.
Each year, over 800,000 tonnes of finished products and raw materials are transported through local roads, rail, and sea.
The Boyer Story
The Boyer Paper Mill is named after the Boyer family, pioneers who settled in the area in 1868.
From its early beginnings in 1941, the mill became the world’s first producer of eucalypt newsprint, setting the stage for ongoing innovation in the paper manufacturing industry.
Today, the mill operates on 565 hectares of land, with the paper operations occupying around 50 hectares of that area.
